Students from the Medical Education Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, University of Prof. Dr. Hamka (FK Uhamka) led the SOCA (Student Oral Case Analysis) exam at the Uhamka Parung Serab Medical Faculty campus in Tangerang, Banten, under the supervision of the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. dr. Wawang S. Sukarya, Sp.OG (K), MARS, M.Hkes. hybrid.
The SOCA exam is a modified oral exam that has many advantages because it can assess many aspects, such as analytical thinking skills, systematic thinking, critical thinking, and clinical reasoning, as well as student communication and presentation.
The SOCA exam is used to evaluate the tutorial learning process. Students in the SOCA exam are asked to prepare a case presentation, then present it for 20 minutes in front of the examiner, followed by 10 minutes for clarification and the examiner’s question and answer. Students in the second, fourth, and sixth semesters take the exams, depending on the block they are in.
According to Dr. Zahra Nurushoffa, Sp.PA, Head of the Doctors Education Study Program, implementing SOCA during a pandemic requires significant effort. Because of the vigilance of COVID-19 transmission, this exam involves many parties, including lecturers as examiners and academic staff as a technical team that assists with exam administration. Of course, this has to do with the role of the Uhamka FK leadership, which helps the examination team in a lot of ways.
The SOCA exam is designed to ensure that Uhamka Medical Faculty students are familiar with and capable of analyzing a case. This ability will be useful for students as they enter the clinical clerkship phase at the hospital, where they will encounter many clinical cases that they will need to analyze, and it will also be useful in their future professional life as doctors.
